Hope your project turns out well. I had a ton of fun with mine.

I used real glass, but I would probably remend using Plexiglass, if you can get it in white. The reason I would suggest this is due to weight. The glass is heavy, and my biggest concern with the unit now is that the glass will break at some point in time.

That said, you might try experimenting on a smaller scale with the coloring. I don't know what white plexiglass costs, or what the light coming though it looks like. I think my glass is 1/8 inch thick, which i'm pretty sure is standard for stained glass. (Note: I have no idea what I'm talking about here.)

All of the bracing is on the back of the unit, if I understand your question properly. Due to the extra weight of the glass, I put in a few extra bars on the back to brace the frame and keep it from bending or breaking.

Re: DIY: Portal Test Chamber Information Panel

Q2: Do you recommend using Plexiglass? Or is regular glass better? Also, How THICK would you recommend the glass/plexiglass?

Re: DIY: Portal Test Chamber Information Panel

Q1: Are the braces on the BACK or FRONT?

Re: DIY: Portal Test Chamber Information Panel

I want to thank you for posting this. I'm incredibly interested in making this myself, although I am no handyman. This would make for a fun project on my days off. The work you did is stellar and while I would love to take the lazy way out and buy one, I think I need to suck it up and go ahead and make one myself. :) Wouldn't be able to do it if you hadn't cracked the code.

Re: Hunger Games Intro

Overall the movie was alright. The visuals were pretty good and the close camera shots helped to portray a sense of uncertainty, but I did feel a little cramped. The film was very tight with a lot of close ups. Beyond that, I think you could count the shots that were not moving on a single hand.

Re: Hunger Games Intro

I haven't had a chance to listen to the vfxshow on Hunger Games yet but I'm guessing they are going to have some critical words about the DP.

Also, love the pick axe going through the laptop.

Re: Bioshock Review

This might be the best review I've ever read. While I don't pirate (and don't really watch much TV), this is what I see from the media companies:

"LA LA LA! LA LA LA! I CANNOT HEAR YOU!" Basically over and over again with their eyes closed and their fingers in their ears.

The world has changed and they wish it hadn't because "back then" distribution was hard and expensive and inherently gave them control. Keeping control is both hard now and could also push away the people who want to give them money.

Re: 12 Egregious Sins of Skyward Sword.

I do remember that "hack" of keeping your XP. It encouraged me to just throw myself at a boss with reckless abandon, knowing that I could come back, maybe a level or two higher, after breezing through the area again.

Final Fantasy 6 ... good times. That might be next after A LInk to the Past for me. Either that or one of the Golden Sun games.

Re: 12 Egregious Sins of Skyward Sword.

One thought jumped out at me about the continuing thing, so I might as well mention it here. Nice games I've seen do just what you say, taking you back with the same inventory you had. Some old RPGs (Final Fantasy, actually, but also Super Mario RPG) do this, but also let you keep any experience or levels you gained. This was removed from at least one remake of Final Fantasy 6. Maybe it's broken, but I kind of liked it. It's a little motivator to keep trying after you lose, and if you went back REALLY far, it lets you breeze through wherever you've been to get back to that point (stronger this time). Sometimes that takes away some of the challenge, but past experience says you have to be trying pretty hard to abuse it.

Re: 12 Egregious Sins of Skyward Sword.

Very nice. I might have a follow up to this at some point.

Re: DIY: Portal Test Chamber Information Panel

I'm in the US.

As for price I would probably have to say somewhere around $400 USD due to all the supplies and time it took to craft.

My biggest concern is shipping. The unit is very heavy and I'm afraid that the plate of glass on the front might break durring shipping. There's a number of things I can do to help insure that the glass is safer durring transit, but I don't know if I can guarantee it's safety, nor can I predict what the shipping charges might be.

If you're truly interested, I'm willing to look into the cost, though.

Re: DIY: Portal Test Chamber Information Panel

Also what country are you in?

Re: Super Bowl – Play by Play

I would totally hire you.
